Guided canoe and power boat on the Missouri River: The Hole-in-the-Wall offers fully guided canoe & power boat trips on Montana’s Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument & the C. M. Russell Wildlife Refuge. Our floats are done with 22 foot Clipper Mariner canoes that can carry up to eight passengers and a 20 foot catamaran that can carry up to ten passengers. These larger canoes allow us to keep our groups together, adding to safety and making it easy to cover the history of the river. As your guide, we will provide the canoes, life jackets, paddles, tents, food, coolers, and cooking hardware. You just provide personal items and sleeping bags for your party.

The Nez Perce Trail
The Nez Perce Indians of Idaho and Western Montana undoubtedly aided the Lewis and Clark Expedition more than any other tribe. However, as the appetite for Indian land for white settlers increased, the pressure on the Nez Perce caused them to strike out against the flood of white settlers. After two fierce battles with the Army in Idaho, some 750 “non-treaty” Nez Perce fled their homeland in a four state, 1,170, mile flight for their lives. During their extraordinary flight from the pursuing Army, this band of Nez Perce Indians, with Chief Joseph crossed the Missouri River at Cow Island at river mile 127, on September 23,1877. This view of Woodhawk Bottom, at river mile 132 is part of the trail traveled by the Nez Perce on their flight. You can visit the site of this historic crossing, along with many other sites of historic importance on one of our “Missouri River Adventures”.
